Worship - Death Series

The character features in these pieces is my own creation, a personification of Death, known as the Horseman. In my interpretation, he is gentle yet intimidating. The sketch version of Death came from a story board of a scrapped comic featuring Horseman as one of the main characters. As these are the same character, I named this the Death Series.

Worship was inspired by Jean-Charles Schaeffert 'skull study'. In this piece I developed my lighting and rendering skills, focusing mainly on creating details and depth without the use of line art, and heavy emphasis on bounce lighting. This was one of my first attempts at an anatomically correct skull.

This piece contained many firsts for me. His design had been set in the comic, but this was a chance to demonstrate more elements of it. The feathers of his wings were individually drawn out, the main struggle with this was that they are meant to be pure black, however I still wanted to show the depth.
